The second sentence of the New Lord’s Prayer, “Our holiness is Yours,” needs to be considered in relation to a passage from ACIM I’ve quoted before.
First though I need to share my first reaction to this sentence. As the second sentence in this new prayer, it has the same number of syllables as the second sentence in the Biblical Lord’s prayer, “Hallowed be thy Name.” But, by referring to the quote from Text Chapter 3, we see that the sentence on the new Lord’s Prayer had a very different connotation.
Text Chapter 3. [T.3.V.7]
The statement “God created man in his own image and likeness” needs reinterpretation. “Image” can be understood as “thought,” and “likeness” as “of a like quality.” God did create spirit in His Own Thought and of a quality like to His Own. There [is] nothing else.
God created us as spirit, and so imbued us with Holiness. Since that Holiness is an extension of God’s essence; it is God’s. We acknowledge that fact in the new Lord’s Prayer. Through the Holy Spirit, we accept and give thanks for that gift.
